Samadhi Retreat October 2026

Dates: Thursday, October 8 (arrival 4pm) – Monday, October 12 (departure 12pm)

Cost: $888, includes shared double room, 4 breakfasts, 4 dinners, all instruction

Samadhi – the 8th limb or “step” of Ashtanga Yoga and the sixth awakening factor in Buddhism – has long been understood as meditative absorption and even enlightenment.  In Yoga, samadhi is taught as the resulting state of mind that surfaces after mastery of the first seven limbs. In Buddhism, Samadhi arises from the preceding factors of mindfulness, curiosity effort, joy, and tranquility; and samadhi prepares the way for Equanimity.

In this retreat we will attempt to apprehend the nuances and practices that arouse this sublime and natural state of consciousness that is available to all of us.  We will investigate the literature (and possible meanings) of awakening, including Patanjali's Sutras and the relevant suttas of Buddha.  We will practice several pranayama methods that elicit tranquility, a quieting of the nervous system that aids the approach to Samadhi.  We will practice several mantras that raise the vibration of our consciousness.  And each day we will practice beautiful, quiet, physical yoga to reduce the effects of the hindrances on the four lower bodies.

We can accommodate 9 participants.

First come, first served.

Our time together – eating, playing, hiking through the woods, and meditating – is designed for everyone to appreciate deeper and prolonged states of mental absorption.   This course is suitable for long-time yoga/meditation students and teachers; those who can sit for long periods (against wall or on chair is fine) and practice gentle yoga postures; and practitioners who have already studied some yoga philosophy and meditation.

Register through October 1.

No refunds after September 15.
